With the holiday season approaching, it can be tempting to fill up on huge meals. To keep your metabolism running smoothly after one of these big meals, a hot drink before bed can be an effective way to stay on track for your weight loss goals.

According to Lisa Richards, nutritionist and author of The Candida Diet, the best hot drink to have before bed is a hot cup of ginger tea.

Ginger tea is an excellent choice to boost your metabolism before bed. Richards explains, "Drinking ginger tea or adding some whole ginger to your caffeine free tea before bed can increase your metabolism."

By drinking a cup of ginger tea before bed, you can kickstart your metabolism and make sure that those huge holiday meals don't ruin your diet.

"Several studies have shown ginger's impact on speeding up our body's calorie burning capabilities along with additional benefits like improved blood sugar and cholesterol levels," Richards tells SheFinds.

Drinking ginger tea before going to sleep is especially effective. Richards explains, "During the REM portion of sleep, our metabolism ramps up and our bodies burn more calories. This process can be enhanced by consuming certain nutrients or food compounds before bed."

With that in mind, brewing a hot cup of ginger tea can boost this elevated metabolism even more.

Looking for another hot drink to try? Vegetable juice is another great option. Richards explains, "Warming a few ounces of vegetable juice before bed fills you with important vitamins and minerals necessary for fast metabolism."

However, make sure to opt for low-sodium and low-sugar options.
