Diet and exercise are the only things that will help you lose weight, especially when it comes to fat. But, there could be nutrients and minerals that you’ve been missing that could be contributing to your stubborn belly fat. For most people, it’s a vitamin D deficiency.

This vitamin has a profound anti-inflammatory response on the cells, making it an excellent daily supplement to add to your current weight loss plan. There’s even research that proves that it can lessen the ongoing pain from inflammation, too!

When it comes to those with belly fat, researchers say that there is a correlation between obesity and vitamin D levels. Studies have found that people with "adequate vitamin D levels" are more likely tended to lose more weight than those with low levels.

"Vitamin D deficiency is one of the most commonly unrecognized medical conditions," says Michael F. Holick, M.D., Ph.D., a professor of medicine at Boston University medical center and author of The Vitamin D Solution. "And that deficiency negatively affects every cell in your body—including your fat cells."

But before you stock up on vitamin D supplements, it's important to stress that taking too much of anything is never a good idea. In fact, too much vitamin D can upset the calcium balance in your body, which can affect how certain heart and blood pressure medicines work.

“Consult your doctor if you suspect that you may be deficient in a certain nutrient or mineral and he or she will help you find the best supplement plan to help replenish the missing levels," Regina Fazzini, a New York-based nutritionist says.
