Everyone always says that what’s on the inside matters when it comes to beauty, and they were right! Beauty supplements are becoming increasingly more popular in the skincare industry because of their convenience and powerful effects. They’re a great and easy way to get a daily dose of skin-healthy vitamins and minerals, which can help drastically improve the appearance of your skin.

This is especially the case for those with mature skin. In fact, there’s one beauty supplement that experts recommend taking to help keep the skin radiant and wrinkle-free–it’s pycnogenol!

The 125 Best New Beauty Launches Of 2023

Bluebonnet Nutrition Pycnogenol ($48.40)

Pycnogenol is an extract from the bark of French maritime pine full of antioxidants, collagen, and elastin, making it an excellent supplement for those with mature skin. Carl Thornfeldt, MD, a New York–based dermatologist and the founder of Epionce Skincare, told Byrdie that it's the "best supplement to take for anti-aging."

One study found that taking 75 mg of the supplement daily for 12 weeks could help increase the production of hyaluronic acid within the skin in menopausal women, which then helped reduce the visible signs of aging in the subjects' complexions. Another study, which was performed on participants with visible signs of photoaging, found that taking the supplement for 6 months helped the participants see a significant reduction in age spots.

Thornfeldt said that pollution and UV exposure play a big role in premature skin aging. In addition to taking pycnogenol, dermatologists stress that it's vital to wear sunscreen every day and use antioxidant-rich anti-pollution skincare products to help protect your skin.
