Going For A Walk After Dinner

There are a ton of benefits to going for a quick walk after dinner--even 15 minutes can make a difference.

Speaking to Well + Good, Juan Delgado, a sports scientist and certified biomechanist with New York’s Sports Science Lab explains, "There are a lot of benefits to walking after eating, or post-prandial exercise."

Delgado continues, "It lowers glycemic index significantly, improves your intestinal movement, promotes better sleep, and boosts your blood flow."

According to Delgado, it also aids your digestion.

He explains, "[W]alking has been found to play a significant role in reducing gastric emptying time by reducing the time that food moves through the gastrointestinal tract, which results in faster digestion and less bloating after eating."

Prevention explains, "One 2008 study found that even 15 minutes of walking after finishing a meal can help with digestion and improve blood sugar levels, speeding the rate at which food moves through the stomach."

With that in mind, if you struggle with post-dinner bloat and want to make your weight loss more effective, incorporating an after dinner walk into your regular routine is a good idea.
