The Scary Reason Spinach And Salad Kits Are Being Pulled From Shelves—Fatal Infections Are Possible!

BrightFarms Spinach and Salad Kits across seven states have been pulled from the shelves due to possible Listeria contamination. The affected products were sold across multiple grocery stories.

The US Food and Drug Adminstration reported the recall, which was issued voluntarily by BrightFarms, on Jan. 17th. Read on for more details, including exactly which products the recall includes and what to do if you’ve purchased them.

According to the FDA, the following BrightFarms Spinach & Salad Kits that were sold in the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia have been recalled:

BrightFarms Baby Spinach; UPC Code: 8-57062-00492-3BrightFarms Mediterranean Crunch Kit; UPC Code: 8-50051-82501-1BrightFarms Chickpea Caesar Crunch Kit; UPC Code: 8-57062-00415-2BrightFarms Bacon Ranch Crunch Kit; UPC Code: 8-57062-00416-9BrightFarms Southwest Chipotle; UPC Code: 8-50051-82500-4

Affected products will have best-by dates of 1/11, 1/13, 1/15, 1/18, or 1/20, which can be found on the bottom of the package.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and people with weakened immune systems. Though no illnesses have been reported, be on the look out for symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea if you’ve consumed one of the potentially contaminated products.
