According to the FDA, the following Fresh Express Salad Kits that were sold in the states of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia have been recalled "out of an abundance of caution":

  • The Fresh Express Caesar Chopped Kit

What to do if you recently purchased a Fresh Express salad kit

If you happen to have recently purchased a Fresh Express salad kit in one of the states mentioned above, there are a few steps to take to ensure your safety. First, check to see if they're marked with the recalled product code and one of the previously listed sell-by dates.

If you do, in fact, have a recalled Fresh Express salad kit, the FDA urges you to discard them immediately: "Consumers who might still have the recalled products in their refrigerators should discard and not consume them."

If desired, you can obtain a refund from the store at which you purchased the products or by contacting Fresh Express.

Risks of Listeria

You may have heard about listeria in other recent recalls, such as Fresh Ideation prepackaged breakfasts. If consumed, listeria monocytogenes like the kind that these recalled salad kits may be contaminated with could lead to a serious infection called Listeriosis.

According to the CDC, this infection can cause a fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and more. Pregnant women, newborns, older adults, and anyone with a weakened immune system are especially at risk.

Luckily, no illnesses have been linked to these products, and the FDA assures consumers that the salad kids were pulled from shelves immediately. You can contact the Fresh Express Consumer Response Center at (800) 242-5472 to learn more.
