Before you place your water bottle order for the week–or better yet, switch to reusable–you must read this update about a water bottle brand that Whole Foods and Amazon sell that is making headlines this week. This is seriously shocking!

A report just found that water company sold by both companies contains “concerning” arsenic levels.

Scary, right? In fact--the levels of arsenic in Starkey Spring Water were at least three times higher than other brands tested by Consumer Reports. Yikes!

The publication confirmed that the arsenic levels found in this brand exceed the legal limits for tap water in some states--although they are within federal guidelines.

Consumer Reports found that the water produced by this company had arsenic levels ranging from 9.49 to 9.56 parts per billion (ppb). That's *just* below the federal requirements, but higher than states like New Hampshire and New Jerseywho have state limits for arsenic to 5 ppb.

Confusing right? The study also highlights the issues surrounding bottled water compliance because the requirements vary state to state. Considering the fact that bottled water overtook soda as the number one drink in America, we'd say it's pretty important for them to figure out the health standards here.

And considering that it's not the first time that Starkey Spring Water has been found to have high levels of arsenic, it begs the question: will Whole Foods and Amazon continue to carry them?

"Beyond the required annual testing by an FDA certified lab, we have an accredited third-party lab test every production run of water before it is sold," a Whole Foods Market spokesperson said in an email to CBS MoneyWatch.
