Thomas Markle has never been one to keep his opinions to himself, and the 77-year-old father of Meghan Markle recently spoke out on his daughter’s partner, calling Prince Harry a “candyass” for their shared decision to leave royal life. Thomas also had plenty to say about his own daughter, claiming that her comments on growing up eating at budget restaurants were lies.

Speaking to The Sun in an interview last week, Thomas unloaded on his famous daughter and son-in-law, first addressing the claims Meghan made in a letter to United States politicians, lobbying for paid parental leave. While the Duchess alleged that she “grew up on the $4.99 salad bar,” her father shut down the claim saying, “She’s never, ever, ever had to worry about anything like that in her life. We’d do the best restaurants in town and we’d do Sizzler because it was convenient.”
Thomas doubled down on their financial state, saying, “We never had to rub our pennies together and just have the salad bar. She had the salad bar — but she had a meal as well.”
After targeting his daughter, Thomas then went on to comment on Prince Harry’s push to leave the royal family, saying, “He’s a candyass. I’d take him on at my age any time. He’d run away from me.” Evidently agitated with the decision nearly two years after it was made, Thomas also told The Sun, “Harry walked away from his responsibilities and that’s ridiculous. He walked away from his grandmother, the royals and the British people.”
The 77-year-old and his daughter initially landed on rocky ground back in 2018 when Thomas decided not to attend Meghan’s wedding, instead speaking to the British press rather than directly to Markle. Over the years, Thomas has made a number of inflammatory comments about his daughter and her life in the royal family, and their relationship continues to disintegrate with continued public insults to her decision making.
