If you’ve ever explored the world of TikTok, you’ll notice that you have access to an extremely wide range of content. To be honest, watching videos on the app is just like falling down the rabbit hole. One minute you’re checking out makeup tutorials and beauty hacks, then before you know it, you’re saving quick and easy recipes for your next Sunday brunch. You could be on TikTok for hours on end, just mindlessly scrolling through your #ForYouPage. Yup, that’s totally normal–we’re guilty of doing it too.
At some point, we’re pretty sure that you’ve encountered at least one or two viral “life hack” videos that you’d think are such game-changers. In fact, we came across one TikTok that claims you can lose belly fat in only five days, just by drinking this lemon coffee concoction alone. Check it out below:

According to user @luthfa.choudhury, you don’t even need to follow a strict diet or workout. She suggests that you just have to prepare this lemon coffee and drink it for five days straight. As a result, she believes you’ll be able to get rid of your belly fat in less than a week.
We know what you’re thinking–or asking, rather. Perhaps the one question that’s all on our minds is: “Does this really work?”
Like you, we’re curious to find out as to whether or not lemon coffee is effective for weight loss. So, we reached out to Sporting Smiles contributor and registered dietitian and nutritionist Katie Tomaschko, MS, RDN for the answer. Keep reading as she shares her expert insight on this trending drink.
The Truth About TikTok’s Lemon Coffee Trend For Weight Loss
The quick and simple answer is NO. Tomaschko confirms, “There is absolutely no way this lemon coffee drink can help you lose weight faster, or lose belly fat, since ‘spot reduction’ of fat loss does not exist.” She explains, “When we lose weight, our bodies choose where we lose it from–there is not much say we have in it. We can train a muscle to grow, but not an area to lose fat from.”
As a clarification, Tomaschko says that “if you want to lose weight, you need to be in a caloric deficit.” Doing this requires either “reducing your daily intake of calories, increasing your physical activity, or both.” When you do both, you are allowing your body to “increase the rate in which you lose weight.”
However, having the mindset that you should lose weight as quickly as possible isn’t always a good thing. Don’t be too hard on yourself. No pressure! Tomaschko emphasizes, “It’s important to understand that ‘faster’ is not better when it comes to weight loss. Slow and steady weight loss of about one to two pounds per week is recommended. This can help prevent regaining the weight back.” She warns, “Too severe of a caloric deficit can really negatively impact our health and metabolism.”
So in conclusion, let it be known that this lemon coffee drink CANNOT help you lose weight faster. In order to enhance your body’s weight loss efforts, it’s best to stick with the nutritionist- and dietitian-approved methods such as reducing you calorie intake daily and exercising regularly.
