Dating rumors have been swirling around Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas for a few months now, but as of last week, they’re officially official! The happy couple were spotted on a cozy weekend getaway in Vermont in late July, holding hands as they spent the day together. However, it’s impossible to forget one major detail about Tom: he’s a scientologist. And according to a scientology expert, their relationship was doomed from the start. Keep reading to find out why.

Tom Cruise & Ana De Armas Go Public With Their Relationship

According to TMZ, the pair spent the trip shopping, grabbed some ice cream, and even took a scenic drive through a national park. Though they've been spotted together before, this was the first time the couple showed any sign of PDA, holding tight to each other's hands as they wandered about.

De Armas and Cruise were first linked back in February after taking a Valentine’s Day helicopter ride together in London.

Although they initially claimed their outings were strictly work-related (The two are set to begin filming the upcoming supernatural thriller Deeper this month), the pair continued to be seen together in the months that followed. Most recently, De Armas was spotted enjoying a relaxed day on a yacht with Cruise.

Scientologist Says They're Doomed

Despite their budding relationship, Tom's beloved scientology community might put an end to things before they even really start. Ana, 37, grew up in a devout Catholic family, which raises some questions about how she and Tom, 63, are going to get along in the long run.

"Tom Cruise's love affairs are doomed,' Karen de la Carriere, one of the highest-ranking Scientologists and one of the few to be directly trained by founder L. Ron Hubbard. "There is a honeymoon period with a lot of generosity and dazzling moments, and then reality sets in."

She explained to DailyMail that it's all fun and games in the beginning, and then they start to find out more about Scientologist beliefs and get to a point where they have to make a decision. "Scientology is very bait and switch," de la Carriere continued. "It starts off OK, especially when you're the girlfriend of a superstar like Tom Cruise. But then you get to the higher, confidential levels and you find out things like you have 400,000 spirits attached to you and you have to spend the next 30 to 40 years peeling them off."

Is Ana up for the challenge? It seems only time will tell.
