Trader Joe’s is embroiled in a scandal after an employee who urged the company to step up their Covid-19 safety measures via an open letter to the company’s CEO was terminated. Yikes!

Eat This, Not That! reports that a New York City employee of the company Ben Bonnema was let go last month after sending a scathing letter to the grocery chain’s highest up in command via Twitter.

The letter implored the California-based-chain to do a better job in protecting workers and customers from the deadly virus.

In the public letter, Bonnema proposed air filtration changes, store capacity limits, a mandatory mask mandate, and a "3 strike" policy in removing uncooperative customers. Seems pretty reasonable, right?

Bonnema even described an incident in which one store customer shouted and cursed at him after he reminded them to wear his mask over the nose. Yikes!

Despite calls for boycott, the company has maintained that Bonnema's "3 strike" policy is not in line with the company's core values and that he was let go for "disrespecting" store guests.

"During his short tenure with Trader Joe's, this Crew Member's suggestions were listened to, and appropriately addressed… Store leadership terminated this Crew Member's employment because of the disrespect he showed toward our customers," spokesperson Kenya Friend-Daniel said.

"We have never, and would never, terminate a Crew Member's employment for raising safety concerns," the company asserts. What do you think?
