We all know the app that immediately comes to mind when you think of apps that drain your battery power and slow down your device (hello, Facebook). And although social media apps are taxing on your phone, they aren’t the only apps that are problematic if speed is a concern. This is the unexpected app tech experts say you should stop using ASAP because it slows down your iPhone.

System Cleaners

They’re disguised as phone helpers — ones that can actually protect your device from the most offensive battery-draining apps. But system cleaning apps can wreak havoc on your battery, according to Daniela Sawyer, Founder and Business Development Strategist of FindPeopleFast.net.

“System cleaners make your phone too slow,” Sawyer says. “These apps work continuously in the background, even when you are not using your iPhone. These system cleaners extensively use data from your phone to clean the junk files. They monitor all apps that you use. So these apps are one of the biggest reasons for your phone’s slow performance. They also drain the battery, downgrading the overall smoothness of the phone.”

Another note to keep in mind about system cleaners, according to Sawyer, is that these apps also have a lot of ads and unwanted stuff. “They also send you a lot of notifications making it challenging to manage the notification panel,” Sawyer says. “As you turn On your data connection, a flood of messages will come from these apps, making our phone laggy.”

Whether you have an iPhone or Android, Sawyer says every phone comes with an inbuilt cache cleaner of junk files cleaner. “You can use them, and if you think that they are also affecting your performance, you can uninstall them,” Sawyer says. “You can clear the cache of your phone by simply going to the storage option in settings. Also, you can separately clean the cache data of every app by going into app management in settings.”
