Electric vegetable choppers from Walmart are being pulled from shelves for increased risk of laceration after multiple reports from customers, with more than one customer needing stitches after using the chopper. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Mainstays Electric Mini Chopper poses “a laceration hazard” for all customers. Keep reading for all the details.
Mainstays Electric Mini Chopper Recall
The Mainstays Electric Mini Chopper is sold exclusively at Walmart. On April 4, Walmart voluntarily issued a recall of the item after multiple reports of injury. The chopper has a green lid and white base. It's rechargeable and cordless, and features three extremely sharp blades attached to the white plastic base.
The affected product, of which 51,750 units were recalled, were sold between August 2023 and October 2023. The model number is MS14100094536S1, and could have been purchased online or in store.
Laceration Risk
Five different reports of injury have been reported as a result of the recalled product, two of which required a trip to the hospital and multiple stitches. All of the injuries occurred during assembly or during cleaning, not during the actual chopping action.
The statement Walmart released explains that "the chopper's blade can operate unexpectedly during assembly or when not enclosed in the container." It also advises customers who have purchased this item to "stop using it immediately." You can bring the Mainstays Electric Mini Chopper back to your local Walmart and receive a full refund for the item, or simply contact your local Walmart to receive a refund if you've already disposed of the item.
