Now’s a good time to double check your groceries–especially if you bought them from Walmart.
A popular deli item, chicken salad, has been recalled because of mislabeled packages which might contain undeclared allergens. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), “The products may contain walnuts, a known allergen, which are not declared on the product labels.”

Willow Tree Poultry Farm, Inc. is recalling nearly 7,000 pounds of their chicken salad after discovering that it might have been mislabeled during production.
According to the FSIS, 15 oz containers of Willow Tree Premium White Meat Chicken Salad Classic might actually be Willow Tree White Meat Cranberry Walnut Chicken Salad. If someone with a walnut allergy unknowingly ate this chicken salad, they could develop a serious allergic reaction.
The problem was discovered when a store received a customer complaint that a container of "Classic" chicken salad contained cranberries and walnuts.
According to the report, supermarkets in Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Virginia might contain this mislabeled chicken salad.
And according to Eat This, Not That!, Walmarts in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont might have sold this now recalled item.
This is a Class I recall, which the USDA defines as "a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death."
According to the release, however, "There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products."
However, the release encourages any customers who have purchased this mislabeled chicken salad to return the item or throw it away.
