Wendy’s is one of today’s most popular fast food restaurants, and every once in a while, it churns out a special new menu item that is a hit. However, one of their latest releases isn’t going over well with their customers.
This summer, the popular burger joint released its Takis-infused ‘Fuego’ collection, which includes a spicy chicken sandwich infused with hot ingredients and the popular spicy corn chips. While they combined two popular things, their chicken sandwiches and the hot chips, the sandwich and collection did not go over well with their customers, who went as far as to call them “disgusting.” Read more about the controversial sandwich below.
Wendy's Releases New 'Fuego' Collection With A Takis Chicken Sandwich
Earlier this summer, Wendy's announced they were introducing a new spicy line of products to their menu in collaboration with Takis, a famous spicy corn chip brand. They sell rolled tortilla chips and more that are coated in red hot seasoning and are known for being addictive to those who can handle the spice.
At the end of June, they unveiled and released a press statement regarding their Takis Fuego Meal, which consists of a Takis-infused spicy chicken sandwich and spicy fries. Additionally, when someone orders the meal versus any menu items a la carte, they get a bag of the Takis Fuego chips to go with it.
"At Wendy's, we know how to keep things spicy, and we love serving up fresh, famous collaborations that tap into consumers' passion points, which made this partnership with Takis a no-brainer," said Lindsay Radkoski, the Wendy's U.S. Chief Marketing Officer, in their press statement. "By joining forces with such an iconic and beloved snacking brand, we're turning up the heat and flavor in a way only Wendy's can!"

Fans React To The Wendy's Fuego Chicken Sandwich On Social Media
After the Fuego line of products was released at Wendy's in late June, customers began weighing in on the limited-edition items, particularly the chicken sandwich, which comes with a spicy chicken fillet, crushed Takis chips, a chili lime sauce, corn spread, and cheddar cheese. On platforms like Reddit, they wrote about how the sandwich ended up being quite disappointing, which was interesting, considering the restaurant's chicken sandwiches are usually a hit.
"I had it today, and the sandwich was disgusting," wrote a Reddit user. "I got nauseous."
"The sandwich definitely smelled like throw-up straight out of the bag," added another angry customer. "I would never buy it again."
Another customer who tried the sandwich described it as "absolutely rancid."
"It was like eating Taki crumbs smothered in spicy sour cream," they described. "Only finished half."
"[Ate] two bites and I was done," noted a user. "It was probably the nastiest thing I've eaten in a while. It was weirdly sweet and smelled terrible. The only good part of the meal was my drink."
As of right now, the Fuego Meal products, including the "nasty" chicken sandwich, are only available for a limited time. It seems like, following these internet reactions, there's a chance it won't make a comeback in the future.
