It’s easy to use food as an emotional crutch during the COVID-19 pandemic. But health experts warn that using food and booze to cope with anxiety and depression is exactly what you *don’t* want to do.
Eating healthy foods helps support your immune system, and foods that affect your waistline will make you feel more lethargic and restless. Additionally, gyms are closed during the novel coronavirus outbreak, and some states are even keeping walking trails closed. Without regular exercise, one must be even more diligent about what they’re putting in their bodies.
We spoke with certified health coach with a master’s in public health Joy Dixon of Order Up Vegan, to find out which breakfast foods you should STOP eating immediately:
1. Pre-packaged sausages
"Although convenient, the sodium and fat won't do your waistline any favors," Joy explains.
2. Whole wheat bagels with creme cheese.
"Carbs provide energy but when they're simple carbs they cause a spike in blood sugar levels, then a crash which leaves you wanting more," she says. "If you're craving bagels, try Ezekiel bagels with almond butter or a smear of seasoned avocado for a bit of creamy texture." Yum!
3. Dairy creamer.
If you're looking to shed a few pounds, let go of the creamer. These products add unnecessary sugar to your diet before 10 am. They also tend to be highly processed and packed with ingredients like trans fats and artificial additives. Try using coconut or almond milk as an alternative.

4. Muffins.
"They're cute and quick to eat on the go. Unfortunately, they're often loaded with white and brown sugar: two ingredients that negatively impact any weight loss goals," Joy warns. "However, if you still want them use coconut or monk fruit sugar for a low-glycemic option that will keep your blood sugar levels in balance." Good tip!
