What you eat before you go to gym is just as important as what you eat after. Eating a small nutritious meal thirty minutes before hitting the gym provides you with necessary energy to sustain you throughout your workout. Though they're healthy and nutritious, fiber-rich foods should be avoided before heading to the gym. "Too much fiber will cause gas and bloating," says Anna Kaiser, fitness expert and founder of AKT. Bloated and gassy is something you don't want to be in the gym.

Here are some common high fiber foods that you should definitely avoid before working out!

Flaxseeds have amazing nutritional benefits -- you just don't want to eat them before working out. "One of the most extraordinary benefits of flaxseeds is that they contain high levels of mucilage gum content. Mucilage is a gel-forming fiber that is water soluble and has incredible benefits on the intestinal tract," says clinical nutritionist Dr. Josh Axe.

Another fiber-rich that will cause bloating before a workout is broccoli. According to Health magazine, "Broccoli [is a] cruciferous vegetable, which contains raffinose — a sugar that remains undigested until bacteria in your gut ferment it, which produces gas and, in turn, makes you bloat." Save yourself the embarrasing moments at the gym and avoid broccoli beforehand.

beans

Black beans, lima beans, lentils, chickpeas -- you name it. Avoid them before going to the gym as they are extremely fiber-rich and can cause some tummy rumbling.

Fiber is an important part of our diet. In fact, we don't get enough of it. "It is estimated that less than 5 percent of Americans get the recommended amount of dietary fiber each day," Dr. Josh Axe says. So don't cut it out of your diet completely -- just don't eat it right before going to the gym!
