At Walmart, you can typically find great items at even better prices. However, this isn’t always the case; every store has their weak spots. And when it comes to Walmart, customers agree that many of the food items can be disappointing, making them a poor choice to add to your grocery cart—even if they do come with a great discount. Below, we’re rounding up a few of the worst Walmart food items you’re better off buying elsewhere, from rotisserie chicken to peanut butter.

60+ Gift Ideas For Everyone On Your List
rotisserie chicken

1. Rotisserie Chicken

Need dinner in a pinch? You might feel inclined to reach for Walmart's rotisserie chicken—but according to reviews, you should probably think twice about that. Unfortunately, this is not one of the superstore's strong suits. In fact, it ranked in dead last on Eat This, Not That's grocery store rotisserie chicken survey. On the Walmart website, customers have expressed their disappointment: "The rotisserie chicken is often bloody and rare or raw in the middle. It's always hit and miss," one review says. Yikes! You're better off sticking to Costco for this one.

2. Freshness Guaranteed Premium Ready-To-Serve Redskin Potato Salad

Walmart has some pretty good fresh food items sold under their Freshness Guaranteed Brand. However, their Premium Ready-To-Serve Redskin Potato Salad is one that doesn't quite meat the mark. It holds a meager 1.7 stars on the Walmart website. Some reviews claim that it's too sweet, while others call it downright disgusting. "DO NOT BUY!!! Would give it 0 stars but I can’t... It was so off putting we threw it away," one person wrote, while another said: "I've never tasted anything so disgusting in my entire life." Noted!

3. Ground beef

Ground beef is a staple in many households (despite the health risks of red meat),  but you might want to get it somewhere besides Walmart. Online, many customers have complained about meat spoiling quickly or expiring the day of purchase. Yikes! Some even claimed their package was missing an expiration date altogether. "I would have given it zero if I could," one customer wrote. Take it from them; don't risk it.

4. Fresh produce

Speaking of products spoiling... unless you play on using the produce you purchase at Walmart almost immediately, you probably shouldn't take your chances on their fresh produce, either. Although their produce comes at a low price, you'll likely pay for that with food that expires very quickly or is already damaged upon purchase. "I don't buy our produce. That stuff [has] been on the shelves for over a month and been in the back for [at] least 2-3 months before it makes it on the floor," one Walmart employee warned on Reddit. Trust the employees!

peanut butter at walmart

5. Great Value Peanut Butter

Who doesn't love peanut butter? Unfortunately, although Walmart's Great Value brand peanut butter may have an unbeatable price tag, the quality just isn't worth it for some PB lovers. The Sun ranked it as one of the worst options out there in a taste test. "Horrible!! so dry u can't spread it wo ripping the bread!! 0 stars!!! want refund," one review of the crunchy peanut butter says. We'll stick to Trader Joe's.

6. Seafood

Seafood is one item you typically don't want to take your chances on—which is why you should probably stick to stores with better quality options, like Costco. Walmart's salmon is rated 1.7 stars online, with many negative reviews. Similar to the ground beef, people have complained about quick spoilage. "I ordered fresh salmon and before I could even open it, you can smell the odor," one customer wrote. "The package was swollen and sort of warm. Once I opened it, OMG it was terribly disgusting." Gross!
