Wrinkles may be a naturally occurring part of life but that doesn’t mean we can’t try every trick under the sun for keeping them at bay. The best anti-aging secrets are those which act preventatively, but there are steps you can take to banish existing wrinkles as well, so you can achieve the smooth skin of your youth even as you grow older. We checked in with four skincare experts to see what we should be doing to fight fine lines and wrinkles to look younger in no time, and this is what they had to say.

60+ Gift Ideas For Everyone On Your List

Sleep With Silk

Not only can silk pillowcases help reduce tangling in your hair, but using this luxurious fiber can even help to work against signs of aging, preventing fine lines and wrinkles from forming. “Silk is a great source for healthy and wrinkle-free skin for a long time. It contains natural fibers that consist of amino acids that play as anti-aging,” explains Dr. Sana Younas. Even celebs are obsessed with this anti-aging trick--Kelly Ripa has been touting the benefits of a silk pillowcase since 2015!

Rely on Retinol

Retinol is well known for its anti-aging benefits and has been proven to provide elasticity to the skin, smoothing wrinkles and allowing you to look your best. “Retinol or specifically tretinoin (from which retinoids are made) causes the epidermis to get thicker, increases blood flow, and increases the production of collagen and elastin, which is what we want for younger-looking skin. If you have dry skin, you can apply moisturizer before and after using retinol to reduce the drying effect,” suggests Jill Canes, NP. Just be aware that when you first integrate retinol into your routine it may cause redness and irritation on the skin which will pass with time.

The Two-Minute Rule

One of the best ways to lock in hydrated, glowing skin is to make sure you’re moisturizing shortly after leaving the shower so that your skin doesn’t have the chance to dry out. Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Todd Minars, MD explains, “The general premise is that your skin is most hydrated immediately after a shower. To leverage that absorbing hydration for all-day benefits, it behooves patients to apply their moisturizing products within the first 2-3 minutes of getting out of the shower. While moisturizing will not remove wrinkles, keeping the skin hydrated and plump can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.”

Super Supplements

Supplements are well known for improving your overall health, but they can also have a profound effect on your skin as well--particularly for anti-aging purposes. “I feel nothing boosts my anti-aging skincare regimen quite like oral supplements, my favorites here being Heliocare Daily Use Antioxidant Formula and Heliocare Ultra which are great oral supplements that can support healthy skin by offering Fernblock PLE extract to shield skin from free radical damage,” says board-certified dermatologist Rachel Nazarian. In tandem with daily sunscreen use, your skin will reflect radiant youth in no time.
