They say that fashion trends come and go in waves, and this is particularly true of our favorite shoe for spring. This coming season’s most daring footwear draws inspiration not from the hottest looks from 20, 30, and 40 years ago–but from those of 2000 and 3000 years ago. Designers including Altuzarra, Brian Atwood, Jimmy Choo, and Stuart Weitzman are raising the gladiator sandal trend to new heights (pun intended) by bringing the shoe over the knee this season.
You may think you won’t wear the over-the-knee gladiator sandal now (when your poor, pale, legs haven’t seen the light of day for months), but come spring, we can bet that you’ll be wanting to show off your toned calves and gams in this bold shoe. Whether flat or with a wedge or heel, the over-the-knee gladiator sandal will undoubtedly be the statement piece of your outfit. We suggest going wild and channeling the era with the rest of your outfit too, and wearing the trend with an off-white belted dress, or a leather tee tucked into loose-fitting denim jorts.
