The 125 Best New Beauty Launches Of 2023

We all know we’re supposed to be drinking more water — we’ve told by countless people and publications since the time we were children. The problem is it can seem like a chore to get in your recommended 9 cups (72 ounces) of water each day. Does coffee count? No? Well then, allow me to say it: it’s next to impossible for a lot of us, especially those of us who are on the go and don’t want to have to use the bathroom every 10 minutes.

With that said, the benefits of drinking enough water are numerous — I mean, it’s a small habit you can incorporate into your daily routine that makes a tremendous difference in your health. Adequate hydration can flush out toxins and prevent kidney stones, reduce hunger and help you lose weight, keep muscles and joints lubricated so you avoid aches and pains, and moisturize your skin, keeping it glowy, radiant, and clear.

Yeah, yeah, you know water is great for your health, but it tastes so … bland. How can you get past the blah-ness of water to make sure you’re getting enough each day? Here are five fool-proof tips for getting in more H2O:

1) Invest In A Better Bottle

The right tools can take you from dehydration (with its headaches and dry skin) to a state of super hydration. Invest in a quality water bottle, one that contains markings, and challenge yourself to drink a certain amount of water each hour or few hours. So, for example, if you’ve filled your bottle to 2.2 liters, which is the daily water recommendation for women, place a mark on .5 liters and label it 10am — and so forth. A great stainless steel or BPA-free plastic bottle can also help keep your water the right temperature and make it taste better. If you want a bottle that does the work of marking your goals for you, try Aquaneu 30 oz Inspirational Fitness Workout Sports Water Bottle With Time Marker ($19).

2) Add Natural Flavors To Water

You may never get used to the taste of plain water. That’s okay — one perfect way to add a kick to your water, while also adding the benefits of vitamins and antioxidants, is by mixing it with fruits. Start with lemon or lime slices, toss in a few slices of watermelon or blueberries and strawberries, and feel free to experiment with herbs like lavender and rosemary.

3) Create A Water Habit

If you begin to associate certain tasks or times of the day with drinking water, getting enough H2O will become a breeze. Make it a point to have one glass of water while you’re applying makeup, another glass during your 11am meeting, a glass before you go for a bathroom break.

4) Drink Water Before Every Meal

If you drink one full glass of water before every meal, your metabolism will get a little boost, you’ll feel more satisfied, and will be less likely to overeat. If you’re out at a restaurant, always ask for water before your meal and be sure to finish the glass before starting in on your appetizer.

5) Try A Water Tracking App

Need a little tech help? Apps like Carbodroid, Aqualert, and Daily Water allow you to track your water consumption, set alerts for times you need to drink up, and can even provide fun motivational tips to keep you on the right track.
