The 125 Best New Beauty Launches Of 2023

One of the best things about summer is the freedom to wear skirts and dresses without stockings at your leisure. One of the worst things about summer (and maybe the world) is when you’re innocently walking down the street or office or hall and your skirt decides to go rogue, and starts twisting around your midsection like a stripper on a pole. This is especially true of denim skirts, but also happens with work skirts, too, and can be incredibly embarrassing. Best case scenario: your zipper ends up on your hip. Worst cast scenario: you crotch flash your co-workers like Britney Spears getting out of a Lamborghini. I know this happens to other people and not just me–so I’m not even going to ask you to post your own embarrassing stories, I’m just going to offer solutions.

1. Mind your purse. Handbags are often the culprit in cases of skirt twisting. If you carry your bag at your waist, and walk quickly like I do, science shows that you are more likely to twist your skirt. Try a backpack or a smaller shoulder bag or just don’t walk like you’re being chased by a zombie, okay?

2. Get crafty with office supplies. Go shopping in your office supply closet for quick fixes for the problem. A set of binder clips or double sided tape will do the trick. Just tape/bind/clip your skirt to whatever Sara Blakely-approved undergarment you’re wearing.

3. Belt it! Try belting your skirt at the hip or waist to prevent it from heading south by southwest.

I hope this post is helpful to you, skirt-challenged women of the world. And for real styling tips, check out the 10 items you really need for summer, the best rompers for your shape and how to style your hair on humid days.
