Coming up with the perfect holiday gift is supposed to be somewhat of a chore. That is why it is perfect, right? You put way more time and effort into it than say, that Gap hat and scarf you pulled off the shelf and purchased knowing you could give it to any one of your friends or even your sister if you can’t find anything better. Well this year, Gap is actually trying to help shoppers find that holy grail of a holiday gift, the perfect present, in their stores, or at least encourage customers to associate their store with unique gift-giving ideas.
Gap is launching a holiday campaign this year centered around the art of giving a favorite present to someone you care about. To help customers with quest, Gap has set up a website full of tips to giving unique and well thought out gifts. If this wasn’t enough the company also issued a “magalog,†a 32-page catalog that has more gift-giving ideas interspersed with available products. On top of that, Gap has created the Shopping Buddy bot in association with AIM which you can add to your buddy list in order to receive instant message tips for holiday shopping. Pretty impressive, huh? But just how good are these ideas? Some seem like obvious marketing ploys, like buying shirts, sweaters, and scarves all in your special person’s favorite color; and all, of course, by Gap. But other suggestions like rounding up memorabilia from your relationship, e.g. matchbooks and ticket stubs, and photocopying them to make nostalgic wrapping paper seem pretty darn sweet. Plus, the Gap gift card, seen here, is now available with a nifty little slot for a photo so you can a little personal flair to even the most generic (yet handy) of gifts. Find more ideas at gap.com
