The White Button Down Shirt Made For Big Busts (Why Wasn’t This Invented Before?)

July 2, 2011 by Eileen Conlan

Back in January, we wrote about some of Oprah’s Must-Haves for 2011–one of them being so extraordinary, I actually bought myself one. It was the white button down shirt, called “The Shirt” by Rochelle Behrens, created especially for girls who have a common problem: they can’t wear a button-down shirt without busting out of it. With a few extra (hidden) buttons, this shirt is revolutionary: my D cup breasts could finally fit into a button down shirt–without being seen. Ask any American designer what women MUST have in their closets–99% of them will mention “a white button down shirt.” But for a whole group of women, it was nearly impossible to pull off before The Shirt by Rochelle Behrens.  Today, the NY Times style section finally caught up with The Shirt, too, interviewing the 28-year-old inventor, who said, “The one item in a woman’s closet that is supposed to project professionalism ends up undermining your credibility”, adding that she was ‘gently mocked’ by male colleagues about the gape. Well, no longer.

Get one for yourself: The Shirt by Rochelle Behrens is available in select Bloomingdales stores for $90. (And it’s totally worth it.)

Check out all of this holiday weekend’s sales and deals,  more of Oprah‘s favorite things, like CJ by Cookie Johnson jeans, our guides to shapewear, bras for big busts, and our guides to other classics, like white jeans, nude shoes and summer dresses.
