When normally teeny-tiny January Jones announced that she would continue to play the role of Mad Men’s perfect housewife, Betty Draper, throughout her pregnancy, we wondered how the writers would fit her, er, extended physique into the plot line. Rather than going the expected route and giving her character a pregnancy, they chose to shock us all and let the leading lady battle with a weight problem. Fat Betty Draper inspired many the laugh (and many the meme), and we’ve got no doubt it’d be an excellent (and unexpected) Halloween costume.
Here’s everything you need. Start with a fat suit (you can get them on eBay for $40, or just use pillows and crumpled up newspaper) and the iconic Betty Draper blonde hairdo. Channel your best fifties housewife in a sweet blouse, and add a girl apron (this way, you won’t have to buy clothes double your size–this one is $20 on Amazon). Add Betty’s favorite accessories–a pearl necklace, a martini glass, and of course, a bag of Bugles and you are ready for your night on the town. Don’t worry, your Don Draper will appreciate your humor!
