Perennially chipper designer Isaac Mizrahi seems to have found a new perfect niche with his upcoming line for QVC.  We can’t wait to see him sell us plaid cheesecake.

Shapewear came under fire this week.  Is it a friend or foe?  We think it has its time and place, but we’ll leave the ultimate decision to you.

Along with heaps of good advice, Oprah introduced us to the word “shabootie.” Needless to say, we were thrilled to have this hybrid bon mot enter our lexicon.

Please Make This Happen: Carolina Herrera Wants To Do A Target Line

The Cut caught up with Carolina Herrera last night, and when asked whether she’d ever do a diffusion line for Target, responded very much in the affirmative – if Target asked her, of course.  So get cracking on that engraved invitation, Target, mmkay?  The gracious designer also noted that Isaac Mizrahi is perfect for a diffusion QVC line because he’s a “natural actor.”

Herrera is known for beautiful, well-tailored dresses done in interesting prints and lovely fabrics.  Until the Target pipe dream comes to fruition, we’ll lust after her gorgeous graphic-print dress and sub in this pretty, printed Walter dress instead.

Project Runway: Designs Imitate Art

In the last challenge before Bryant Park, the remaining five designers took a trip to the Getty Museum in Los Angeles where they had to find inspiration for their final designs.

Irina used a painting of Rubeneque goddesses to create her flowing Grecian-style dress. The back detail was pretty, but Nina thought the length and accessories were dowdy. Still, she’s headed to the show.

Carol Hannah’s 17th-century French bed-inspired gown was a hit for its impeccable construction, but judges didn’t see the connection. However, her consistency was enough to get her down the runway.

Judges uniformly agreed that Althea’s architectural design was more than she could handle. Heidi called it a mess. However, her willingness to take risks got Althea a ticket to BP.

Christopher was inspired by a rock fountain covered with algae. He stood behind his choices, but judges couldn’t get over his gap in design knowledge, and sent him packing.

Monet’s Rouen cathedral brought Gordana to tears, and she turned it into her own masterpiece: a beautiful strapless silk organza gown. Cindy Crawford said she’d wear it, but judges thought it was too safe.

Gordana’s gown drew raves (even though she won’t show at Bryant Park).  We liked the similarly pretty Adrianna Papell Strapless Ombre Silk Gown, which also uses a graduated color scheme. In addition, the waist and bust rhinestone details add some definition to the flowy silhouette. And while she didn’t get the same reviews, Irina’s cold shoulder sleeves are hot for fall. This INC Drop Waist Cold Shoulder top has elbow-length cutout flutter sleeves and a belt that gives shape without being tight.

It’s Time To Hit The Road With The Latest It Bag, The YSL Roady Tote

Since it’s been seen on the arms of everyone from Rihanna to Mary-Kate Olsen, Yves Saint Laurent’s Roady tote definitely wins the title for the newest and latest “it” bag.  And if you’re someone who’s against the notion of “it,” well, turns out you can even get the Roady customized to keep the style all your own (or you can keep things simple and find a deal on ebay).

As beautiful as the Roady tote might be, we certainly won’t hold it against you if you prefer to spring for a lookalike.  We’ve even done some sleuthing – our favorites all follow the chic, simple, square look of the Roady.  First, we’ve got Michael Kors’ Skorpios tote, then Cole Haan’s practical small saddle tote, Lucky Brand’s medium slouch tote (which probably does the best job imititating the overall YSL look), and finally, Banana Republic’s chain leather tote, which is slightly different in shape but perfectly retains the sophisticated feel.

News: Escada Won’t Have To Close, Botox For Breasts Grows, And More

1. Escada won’t have to close its fashion-house doors, as its finally been bought, by Megha Mittal, the daughter of a steel magnate. We’re glad to hear their festive attire isn’t floating off to fashion heaven. [Vogue UK]

2. Apparently getting Botox for one’s breasts is an increasingly common, half-hour procedure.  Yikes.  Our advice is to shop for the best bras and avoid toxins at all costs.  [Daily Mail]

3. Beauty companies are already beginning to shrug off the recession, one sign of which is their hunt for new collaborations.  We’ll swipe on our best mascara and wait to see what new products this will bring. [WWD]

Just In Case Your Legs Felt Left Out Of The Twitter Craze…

So we’re all for funky, patterned hosiery (after all, we were beside ourselves with glee when Gerbe’s polka dot stockings made a comeback this fall) but these Twitter-inspired tights by the designer Gaby are just plain icky. People spend years trying to rid themselves of the ugly tattoos they ended up with after a crazy night in Vegas, so why would you willingly wear hideous tattoo-like designs all over your legs? Twitter has officially been taken one step too far.

Shapewear: Friend Or Foe? You Be The Judge

If you haven’t had a chance to check out Rachel Dodes’ hilarious report on the  state of shapewear in today’s Wall Street Journal, we highly recommend you take a look.

Dodes recounts the evolution of this “modern girdle,” and relates some hysterical shapewear horror stories – one involves a 31-year old woman trying (and failing) to maneuver a trip to the bathroom in a pair of “crotchless” Spanx. Dodes doesn’t quite have it out for the brand as much as Gawker, where they insist shapewear is “pure evil,” but the war on Spanx has certainly begun.

They may be uncomfortable, but when crazy designers like Karl Lagerfeld are saying no one wants to look at heavy women, and Christian Louboutin is accusing Barbie of having cankles, where else can we turn but to a trusty tummy tucker?
