Fashion Find: Couture with a Conscience

imageStella McCartney burst onto the fashion scene with feminine, cutting-edge designs that have made her a superstar. However, the daughter of vegetarians Paul and Linda McCartney has also made a career of being animal-friendly; she refuses to work with leather or fur.

Earlier this year, she took the idea a step further and created a line of vegan shoes and handbags that suit any woman, whether your style is urban-rough or sleek sophisticate. It’s nice to know that when you slip on your stunning open-front canvas boots, you’re being eco-friendly as well as fashion-forward.

image

Bargains Week Feature Find: CocoMyles.com

Why: If I can customize it, I will buy it. I’m 5 ft. tall, and I enjoy dinner every night. Oh, yeah, the most important part of my fantasy is that the dresses don’t cost more than my student loan payment every day. Thanks to Coco Myles, dreams really do come true. Take that cynical urbanites.

You can select a dress from their celebrity inspired looks, like this Evangeline Lilly stunner, or from their more basic collection. You can choose the color, size 2-16, and add a shawl or scarf, all for under $150! Try out a “Coco Myles Original”, for a holiday party dress that’ll make you look and feel like a million dollar starlet!

Fashion Find: Affordable (and comfortable!) Luxury

image
Comfortable and luxury don’t usually pair up to describe designer shoes, but Naturalizer’s new Signature collection disproves the trite no-pain-no-gain adage. Gretchen Monahan teamed up with Brown Shoe to design the line’s modern, sophisticated and comfortable heels, wedges and flats. And on top of being fashionable and wearable, prices range from $125 to $160.
image
After running around the office in the black patent Flaunt ballet flat ($125) I went dancing — no I’m not just writing that — in the flashy Niche heel ($125). At the end of the night, my feet were as tired as the rest of me, but not achy and sore. Yes, Virginia, there really is a Santa Claus.

Fashion Find: Good Genes

image

For the chicest, sleekest jeans of the year, the spotlight’s on Genetic Denim. Beloved by skinny starlets, Genetic Denim is on a mission to make everyone look good. Available in three silhouettes (Dominant, Recessive, and Mutated), and a number of cuts, everyone can find something that suits. A favorite feature that sets Genetic apart from the crowd is a waist that rises higher in the back than in front, eliminating the dreaded thong flash, and visually elongating the legs.

SheFinds loves this Recessive Flare in Carbon Resin Rinse. The deep grey-blue is this year’s “it” wash, and the cut is fitted, with a slight flare leg to balance the hips, for those of us who don’t fall into “skinny starlet” category.
These are skinny jeans for people who hate skinny jeans.

Price: $99-$220

SheFinds News: Lela Rose at Payless

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Famed Designer Lela Rose has partnered with Payless Shoe Source to create a line of footwear and accessories we can all afford! We’ll get our first peak at this ultra feminine line, featuring patent leather and wool, when it is unveiled at the Fall 2007 runway show in February at Bryant Park. This line of footwear is not the first occasion in which Lela Rose partners with Payless; the company provided her with shoes that were not commercially produced in her Spring 2007 runway show.

The celebrities and debutants have had Lela’s designs to themselves for long enough. Now it’s our turn to share the wealth.

A Find: Ice, Ice Baby

image

What: 5 Carat green amethyst, diamond and white gold ring icon

Why: Colored-gem cocktail rings have been blinging things up for awhile now, and if you still haven’t plunked down for a sparkler of your own, the time has come. I mean, what better time than the holiday season (where festive libations and clinking glasses abound) to sport some serious “look at me” glitz? The word “moderation” has no place in my Thanksgiving-through-New Year’s lexicon, which may be why I’m drawn to this stunning celadon-colored ring. February babies and gemstone purists may scoff at non-purple amethyst, but this subtle celery shade reflects light beautifully and dresses up everything from ice blue to cranberry red to black — all the colors of the season.

Price: $95

Trend Alert: Frye Goes Less Boot, More Retro

Thinking of Frye usually conjures up images of seriously rough-and-tumble, yet beautifully crafted boots. Such is not the case for Spring 2007, when the company will not only further branch out their sandals and flats, but also rock retro to the fullest. The new lines are filled with extra strappy Gladiator sandals, adorable braided patent leather flats, retro booties, sturdy mules, stacked heels, t-straps and so much more. All styles are still hand-crafted in Brazil, so their quality is certainly not waning with a wax on style. But their look just became ten times more delightful.
