iPhones are incredibly useful and nifty, but once they start to lag and slow down, they can become incredibly frustrating.
There are a lot of things that can cause an iPhone to lag, and they can be related to various parts of your device. For instance, low battery life can cause an iPhone to lag, as well as not enough storage space, or using a certain busy website. To save yourself some time while trying to figure out what’s slowing down your device, we’re listing three apps tech pros say can have that effect, and why you should consider deleting them. Read more about them below.

1. Facebook
Facebook is often considered the blueprint for most of today's leading social media apps, and though others might've taken its place as the most popular, a lot of people still use it. However, if you're using it frequently and to its fullest extent, it could be causing your iPhone to slow down.
"Facebook consumes a lot of resources in the background by looking for updates continuously, refreshing content, and pushing notifications even when it's not in use," notes tech pro Amy Mortlock. "The app collects a lot of cache data over time, sometimes reaching a gigabyte, filling your phone's memory, causing performance issues. It's heavy use of photos, reels, and advertisements needs high power to process and continuously drains your battery."
2. Navigation Apps
Most iPhone users have some kind of navigation app downloaded for their daily commutes, travel, and more. However, it's crucial to stick with one if possible, as popular GPS apps like Google Maps and Waze can significantly affect your device's speed.
"They're constantly running processes in the background, such as checking GPS, Bluetooth, data, and your device's motion sensors," explains smartphone expert Steven Athwal. "Navigation apps also store large offline map files, which consume your phone's storage. These background processes and large storage consumption are causing high CPU usage and battery degradation. To combat, I'd try disabling background access for these apps."
3. Instagram
The app, now owned by Meta, the company owned by Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg, has a lot going on. From regular posts to reels, stories, livestreams, etc., the social media app requires a lot of effort from your iPhone, therefore slowing it down.
"Instagram has been confirmed by Google as causing excessive battery drain on Android phones," adds Mortlock. "This excessive drain also causes phones to get uncomfortably hot during use. Background activity remains problematic as it constantly syncs content and auto-plays videos, requiring substantial processing power."
