Forum Find: Save Face With Bobbi Brown Blotting Papers

Ever get the feeling that everyone's in on the secret except you? That's how we feel when our faces look like the Exxon Valdez midway through the day while our coworkers stay shine-free.

And that's why we're thrilled to find a great recommendation for Bobbi Brown Blotting Papers ($20) in the SheFinds Forums. We hear the absorbant, powder-free tissues absorb excess oil and sweat to leave a much cleaner, fresher face. Even better, they come in a handy, faux-leather carrying case (complete with a mirror, natch) that slips easily into even the smallest handbag. We know we'll be stocking one for the office, one in the car, and one in our evening clutch.

Sitting on a great find you just can't keep to yourself? Tell us about it in the SheFinds Forums!

Dress For Success, Hills-Style

image

Yes, I admit I have a full-blown Hills obsession. I'm sure plenty of the drama is scripted, but that doesn't stop me from tuning in each week to see what happens next.

But am I the only one who thought Lauren went a little overboard for her trip to New York? Whitney took the heat for her style at the meeting, but I Lauren's dress bothered me more. The girl knows fashion, of course–she recently released her own line. And I do love her dress, the Black Halo Jackie O ($305), which has been seen on plenty of celebs around Hollywood and beyond. Yet the style seems a bit sexy for an intern's trip to the office. (And don't get me started on running a casting in those shoes!) LC wore the frock in a more sedate grey versus the va-va-voom black pictured here, but I still say the super fitted style, low neck, and slit skirt seem better suited for a cocktail party than a meeting.

What do you think? Is this a Monday morning or Saturday night dress?

Grow Up! Who Still Wears Overalls?

image

I live in a neighborhood where most women know how to dress. In fact, more often than not, I end up feeling frumpy compared to the fashionistas flagging cabs in 4-inch Louboutins and Tory Burch frocks.

So I was more than surprised to see a fairly young, attractive woman wearing overalls walk by my local café. Yep, overalls—like the Osh-Gosh kind you had as a kid. They were brown corduroy, a little baggy, and looked absolutely horrendous.

Girls, what gives?  Who wakes up in the morning and thinks, today’s an overall day. Unless you’re doing structural work on your home, I can’t imagine a good reason to wear something like this. If you can’t keep your pants up, buy a belt; if you’re trying to cover a belly, wear an empire waist. Just don’t dress like a toddler or construction worker. Here at SheFinds, we say overalls are absolutely over and out!

Hair Find: Blown Away By the Sedu Ultrapower Hairdryer

image

What:
Sedu Ultrapower Professional Hairdryer

Why: I hate blowdrying my hair. The noise, the effort, the heat…by the time I finish prepping my 'do, I'm so sweaty I practically need another shower. But the alternative appeals even less. Leaving the house with wet hair isn't an option, and, even if I do have the time to air dry, the sad, stringy outcome will pretty much ruin my day.

Enter the Sedu dryer, my new hero. It blasts air both hot and cold with such force that I cut my styling time in half. And though I'm no hair professional, I'd guess less time primping equals reduced damage, less split ends, and fewer trips to the salon. Warning: your stylist may hate this professional-grade equipment, because now you'll need his services less often. But I am officially in love, and I'm perfectly happy to have paid more for my dryer and save time, energy, and tip money down the road.

Fragrance Find: Settle Down With Mistral

imageWhat: Mistral Wild Blackberry Eau de Parfum

Why: I change perfumes like most people change their underwear. It’s not necessarily that I stop liking the scent of a particular fragrance but rather that I’m easily seduced by the new hot scent in town.
I try a new perfume, fall fast and hard, then swear my undying love and devotion, convinced that I’ve finally found THE ONE, the signature scent that I’ve been searching for my whole life. Invariably, my passion wanes, and I’m on to the next flavor of the month with hardly a backwards glance.

Despite my wandering nose, my days as a perfume player ended when I spritzed the last bit of Mistral’s Wild Blackberry Eau de Parfum I owned and realized–gasp!–I was not ready to say goodbye. The sweet smell is subtle and sensuous, yet not overpowering, and I’m finally ready to settle down and embrace my future as a one bottle kind of girl.

That’s not to say I won’t experiment every once in a while – I’m only human – but I know that at the end of the day, I’ll return to Mistral. After several years of searching, I’ve finally found my scent soul mate.

Price: $48

Last Chance! Five Beauty Buys To Make Before Breast Cancer Awareness Month Ends

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is almost over, and we’ve already done our self-breast exam, shopped for beauty products and fashions benefiting the cause. But before October comes to a close, we found a few more great products that we couldn’t resist.

image

Candles are so last season; this October is all about fragrance sticks. All proceeds of the deliciously feminine Antica Farmacista in Peonia Romantico ($58) will go to Gilda's Club, an organization providing support for those living with Breast Cancer and their families. For something a little spicier, try Sweet Grass Farm’s Hope, Courage & Faith Fragrance Stick Set ($29.95), with 10% of the proceeds going to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

peppermint_foot

Summer is over, and it’s time to officially retire those strappy sandals and indulge in some soothing foot therapy. Upper Canada will donate 25 cents from every sale of its Peppermint Foot Therapy collection to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. This stuff really works – one night spent with a generous amount of the Cracked Heal Treatment ($7.99) and all evidence of my completely impractical devotion to platform shoes completely vanished.

smashbox

Created especially in honor of breast Cancer Awareness Month 2007, a portion of the proceeds from the limited edition Blushing Pink Fusion Soft Lights & Brush Set from Smashbox Cosmetics ($59) will benefit the National Breast Cancer Coalition Fund, a grassroots advocacy group dedicated to finding a cure.

clarisonic

I didn't think they could do much to improve upon my favorite beauty tool. Then they went ahead and created the CLARISONIC® Pink Skin Care Brush ($195), and will donate $10 of each sale to fight against breast cancer.

Buy This And Never Lose Your Bag Again

What:  CC Skye's Ferrante Bracelet Clutch

Why:  This season a clutch is a fashion necessity.  Sleek and sophisticated, they complete your evening attire and spice up a jeans and blazer combo.

However, the clutch signals danger for forgetful fashionistas.  After all, it is ridiculously easy to indulge in one too many mojitos and leave your clutch in the bathroom of a bar at 2AM, never to see it, your favorite lipstick, or your credit rating again.  (Not that it's ever happened to me…)

To help us out, CC Skye has created a chic way to guarantee that your clutch doesn't fall prey to opportunistic nightlife patrons. Their Ferrante bag attaches to your wrist with a sexy 18 carat gold plated chain and cuff.

Which means at the end of the night, you'll return home with your bag, your favorite lipstick, and a fabulous included accessory.

Too bad CC Skye's genius can do nothing for that nasty mojito hangover.

Price: $415

The best tip we can offer to help keep your handbag organized is to lighten your load daily.  As soon as you get home, take out anything that isn’t absolutely necessary, and drop it in a catch-all basket/bin near your front door.  This way, you are instantly ready to run out of the house tomorrow morning!

Moisurize The Right Way! Soft, Not Slippery

What: The Thymes Filigree Hand Cream

Why: There's no shortage of hand creams on the market, but there is a dearth of moisturizers that soothe and soften the skin without making it too greasy and slippery. And while I hate having cracked, dry hands (a real risk once the weather changes), I also can't stand the feeling that I just dipped my paws in a vat of butter.

So when my hands need an extra moisture boost at work, I turn to The Thymes' Filligree Hand Cream. This deliciously scented, botanically formulated cream smoothes my skin without making me incapable of, oh, typing, writing, or holding a mug. Plus the pretty package is a lovely addition to my desk and provides easy access when I need a moisture fix.

Shefinds Solution: Outer-Underwear by Tail Bait

'Tis the season for wearing tanks, camisoles, and all manner of skin-baring tops that keep you cool while showing off your sexy shoulders. This normally means showing off your bra straps as well, unless you wear a strapless bra (and wind up tugging at it all day) or boldly go braless (comfy, but watch out for air conditioning). Enter Los Angeles-based label Tail Bait with what they call “Outer-Underwear” – bras, camisoles, and halter tops with interchangeable jeweled straps meant to peek out from under your shoulder-baring tops. The overall look is very laid-back with a West Coast feel, but you can make it your own no matter where you are. I wondered if she’d be able to pull it off while spending an evening out on the town in Manhattan. I paired a black tank over a white cami and added my personal Tail bait fave – the gold Gypsy straps. The verdict? I felt cute and sexy, and I loved the way the gold straps added a bit of glitz to an otherwise casual outfit. You can say bye-bye to boring elastic bra straps too with the fun mix-and-match pieces available at Tailbait.com. imageimageimage Tailor Bra in black, Raye Tunic Cami in pink, and Coco Tank in turquoise
