Reader Review: Simply Vera — Vera Wang for Kohls

Vera Wang's new line for Kohls, Simply Vera, has been met with mixed reviews. We were hoping  for big things when we got a sneak peek back in August, but when the line launched earlier this week, some of the critics were left wanting more. Enough is enough — it's time for you to weigh in. Have you seen the Simply Vera line? What are your thoughts? Did you buy anything? One SheFinds loyalist wrote in to us this morning with her take:

"I went to my local Kohls to check the newly launched line on Sunday and the clothes fit well and are great quality. I tried everything on, they fit true to size. This is some great stuff!"

Here are her top picks:

I bought the jacquard bubble skirt. It fits true to size. It’s a blend between elegant and casual chic. Can be dressed up or down. Ultra fem. Love this.

I went to Kohls today, very excited to pick up some pieces from the Simply Vera line.. But to my disappointment.. i found that the sizes ran HUGE!! I’m usually a XS or S.. so i tried the Small on in a few tops.. and they were just way too big on me! Either she needs to redo the sizing or create a size XS! I was so disappointed! :(

I was disappointed – I think the quality is similar to all the Kohls brands and I thought the selection was boring. I left without buying anything.

Yep, got up this morning cheerfully got dressed and out the door i went to check out the great simply vera line at Kohls. Well i have only this to say after the scare!!!! I went too Target and wow what a relief.

  • spacegeek

Saw these at Kohl’s when looking for some homegoods. I agree that the stitching, backfacing and tape were poorly done. This is “throw away” clothing, IMO, which I suppose it is supposed to be.

I also checked out the new line at Kohl’s, and was also disappointed in the sizes.

I wear a size XS/S and couldn’t find anything to fit me.

The fabric seemed poor on some of the items, also.

I bought 4 shirts from Vera’s collection at Kohl’s today. I tried them all on after getting home – and LOVED them! I am 5’11″ a size 8 and I thought they fit well, true-to-size and the designs are elegant and fun!

I was disapointed with the vera line at kohl’s. i am petite and found that the small size was way too big. I also thought the fabrics were of cheap quality and the cost was way overpriced for the cheap materials. I am loyal to the go designers that target puts out and am over satisfied with the sizing, quality, and the price. Vera’s line pales majorly in comparison. Some of the pieces were unique but $40 for a cotton t-shirt, please. ridiculous. I was not impressed.

I found the shoes to be quality–BUT–the sizing was, unfortunately, way off. I’m normally a 10 shoe, verging on 11 since the kids, and I bought a pair of elf boots in 9.5. Which is fine, except when you consider I would have bought the full size boots but the leg was 3 INCHES TOO BIG. I’m not an unusual size and I’ll admit I always have trouble with boots, but it’s usually only by a half inch to an inch. 3 inches? Come on…

I went to Kohl’s after going to five stores to look for an outfit I needed for a special event. I saw the VW dress hanging and fell in love with it. The more I looked, the more I really liked what I saw. I ended up leaving with a dress, a skirt, and two tops and I am going back for more. The clothes fit great. Look great too. I used to be a wedding gown designer myself and if I had gone into clothes design, I would have designed clothes just like these. Thanks Vera! You made my day!

Liked the tee- sizing is like better fashions- not all juniory. Misses the mark with overall proportions- unless she thinks avg woman is 5’10. Liked fabrics, but unfinished edges & outside pleats?Just sloppy & cheap. Not enough bang for the buck- ‘throwaway’ is not for me. Lack of quality, poor proportions & higher price point for Kohls ruins it for me. REM:Chaps is Lauren; Villager is Claiborne – not as trendy, but i wont be throwing them away.

I think the eccentric sizing of the line mimicks Vera’s own personal aesthetic– oversize, bag-lady luxe. That explains why she’s paired silky, billowy tops with oversized, tunic-length grandpa sweaters. I personally loved her play on proportions. The best pieces include: the collarless trench in slate, the tunic-length Ts & the SHOES! I’ve never seen so many interesting takes on the black pump! The slight platform sole provides a great base for the billowy silhouette of the clothing.

    UMMM. I have a question.
Where do you people shop to be so condescending toward clothes that most people in America buy: “throwaway? clothing” at Kohls and many other similar stores as well as Wal-Mart (God help them). People where this stuff for life. They are not “throwaway” people and “designer” clothing that costs $400 for a t-shirt does not need to be that expensive to be pretty and desirable. Thanks.

Simply Vera @ Kohl’s is being beautifully executed by the retailer ( I work there!). However, the line misses my mark on sizing. Simply Vera is not for ladies with “complex” figures. I love the coats and jackets, but if you’ve got hips…back away from the Vera. Oh, by the by, Kohl’s has Simply Vera on sale as we speak to introduce the new line!

  • budget babe

i have to agree with your reader: the pieces fit surprisingly well and exude casual elegance. appropriate for women of all ages and sizes.

the price points and quality are no different than anything else you’d find at a mid-level department store. just cuz vera’s bringin’ it to the masses doesn’t mean she’s handing it out for free.

and don’t forget, kohl’s is notorious for their sales. scope it out, then buy when it’s marked down.

I love Simply Vera. There are lots of interesting pieces, you just have to know how to put them together. I am forever getting compliments on my outfits. My friends want to know how I can afford to dress so well on a ateacher’s salary!

  • deb

love the skinny jeans. Get a great fit without the super low waist. At 40 I prefer not to wear the low waist. Good grown up look, keeps me out of juniors. Thank you.

    High priced, poor quality

  • Missy

My mom has symmetry issues since her breast reconstruction surgery. The Simply Vera front closure bra is the only undergarment capable of restoring her confidence in her apperance. we tried all types of bras in every price range! Only problem was that all the Simply Vera bras that we bought, had this clear plastic snap, and they all broke. But not having to wear a cutlet in the bra cup is worth the trouble of the broken snaps, at least to my mom.

  • SKay

Very poor quality, beware, don’t waste your money: 3 of 3 cardigans I bought from Kohl’s Vera line are falling apart where the sleeve meets the body of the cardigan. They’re all less than a year old, and each is worn at work less than a couple times per month. Thread on one of the cardigan sleeves has come all the way out, so I can’t wear it until I sew it up!

what can I do about a simply vera bra sz 38B style# 21402 that I bought a year or two ago and cannot wear because both the underwires came thru the fabric at the center. I tried to put a patch over the exits, but that is not going to hold. I took out the underwire and will try it this way. It’s made in China–no wonder. Fabric is nice, but there is no quality. Will not buy one of these again. thanks

  • EtTuBrute

It seems that for petite women and women with curves, this line disappointing. I thought her outfits were cute but way too pricey for the quality. I cannot afford these designer clothes even at her “discounted” prices. :(

I bought a pair of Vera Wang jeans at kohls. I loved them. They are straight leg and dark blue with studs an the back pockets. The first day I wore them six of the studs came off the pockets. I’m so glad I had on a long shirt that covered the pocket and the missing studs. VERY disappointed in the jeans. I never even washed them. They will probably all fall off!
