Having a dry scalp is one of those pesky beauty problems. It’s annoying to deal with and can be embarrassing if you have dark hair or often wear dark colors. Fortunately, there are easy at-home remedies for dry scalp.

Keep in mind that dry scalp is different from dandruff. Dry scalp is when your scalp is lacking moisture and small dead skin cells flake off. Dandruff can be caused by multiple things and is typically diagnosed by a doctor. It can result in oily flakes of dead skin, usually white/yellow in color.

Here are five at-home remedies for dry scalp!

Tea tree oil. Use a tea tree oil shampoo or mix the essential oil into baby shampoo to create your own. It’s great for your scalp because of its antifungal, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Apple cider vinegar. ACV is great for pretty much everything, so of course it’ll help your dry scalp. It will help balance the pH level of your scalp and help kill the yeast that can cause itchiness. Mix equal parts water and ACV into a spray bottle. Spray the solution on your scalp and let it sit for about ten minutes. Rinse out with regular shampoo and repeat the process once or twice a week.

Coconut oil. After washing your hair, rub some coconut oil on your scalp and let it set in for about 30 minutes. Rinse it out with regular shampoo. Olive or jojoba oil may also be used the same way.

Lemon juice and honey. Mix honey with fresh-squeezed lemon juice. Massage the mixture into your scalp and let it sit for a few minutes. Rinse out with regular shampoo. You can also mix lemon juice with coconut oil.

Honey and olive oil. Warm up a half cup of olive oil and mix in two teaspoons of honey. Massage the mixture into your scalp and let it sit for 10 minutes. Rinse out with regular shampoo.
