Few things bring me as much joy as the feeling of soft, smooth skin after shaving. On the flip side, few things aggravate me more than ingrown hairs and red, irritated skin after shaving. You’re probably asking, why not try waxing or laser hair removal? The answer is simple: I’m cheap. I have no interest in spending money (or time, for that matter) having my hair removed by someone else when I can do it myself for relatively cheap.

Still, the problem of ingrown hairs and irritation remains. Well actually, not anymore thanks to Alleyoop. I recently started using their Smooth Operator lotion right after I shave my legs, underarms and bikini area and I’m here to tell you this stuff works. Just a few applications of this lotion drastically reduces the number of ingrown hairs I get, especially under my arms and around my bikini line which used to hurt like a mother. Even better, the lotion completely prevents redness and irritation altogether for me!

As someone who has struggled with ingrown hairs after shaving for years, it feels like nothing short of sorcery that this unassuming lotion can work such magic. I assumed there would be some weird chemical or hair growth inhibitor in the ingredients, but no. Just super hydrating, good-for-skin things like Vitamin A, C, E and jojoba oil that hydrate your skin while also softening stubble.

One note of caution: if you don’t like overly-scented products, you should be forewarned that this lotion definitely has a potent fruity smell. I don’t mind it all (I find it quite nice, actually), but if you’re opposed to fragrance this probably isn’t the lotion for you.
