If you don’t live under a rock, you’ve heard of TOMS – the slip-on shoes beloved by celebrities like Scarlett Johansson, which benefit children in third-world countries. The shoes are sort of old news – so, why are we talking about them? Skechers just released BOBS, a strikingly similar shoe (above), and we can’t help but wonder if this is a counterfeit lawsuit in the making.
Not only are BOBS identical and the same price as TOMS, but BOBS also donates shoes to children in need. So far this year, Burberry sued Body Glove over a cell phone case, and Cartier sued Hautelook over fake watches, so you would think Skechers would think twice before putting out a blatantly similar shoe. Is this a copyright case, or does BOBS get a free pass since sales of the shoe go to a good cause? Leave comments here.
