If you’re getting excited about the new Apple 16.4 iOS update and wondering what there is to look forward to, get ready for a few tech treats. In addition to the news that Apple will introduce 21 new emojis (including a cute jellyfish) there are plenty of other goodies headed our way. Here are 10 hidden features from the new iOS update that tech experts say can change your life (or, at the very least, make some part of it more convenient or fun).
Changes in Creating Shortcuts and Automation
Apple has added many new Glyphicons for setting up shortcuts, now offering a wide selection for setting icons, says Amol Wagh, editor in chief at Digital Conqueror. In addition, iOS update will be adding new actions that can be set for more convenience, such as:
-
- Set Night Shift
- Set True Tone
- Set Airdrop Receiving
- Set Announce Notifications
- Shut Down
- Set Always On Display. (This feature was available only for the Apple watch, but now it comes to iPhone 14 Pro)
- Much awaited action ‘Lock the screen’ with automation. You can set it to shut the screen ‘When Bed Time starts.’ This automation are similar to Zapier or IFTTT integration we see on the web.
Changes in Apple Pay
“The later Pay button is now changed to Schedule, accommodating the changes related to scheduling your payments,” Wagh says. “Also, the Show Keypad has been changed toOther Amount on the same page. Once the payment is complete using Apple Pay, you’ll see a newly designed payment confirmation screen. If you’re using Discover cards, you can use Virtual Credit Cards with Apple Pay.”
Changes in Icons
On iCloud Advance Data Protection Settings, some iOS apps icons have been replaced with MacOS apps, Messages, Notes, and iCloud Drive icons are changed on this screen, Wagh says, adding that this could have been done as a way of hinting towards changes in iOS icons in the next version i.e. iOS 17.
Changes in Siri
Siri users in the Arabic Language will now have two new voices, Wagh confirms.
5G Standalone Mode
“Another much-awaited feature is selecting the 5G Standalone mode, made available by select networks in some countries,” Wagh says. “It’s now coming to all iPhones worldwide.”
Automatic Wi-Fi Connectivity
The auto wi-fi connectivity update gives users the option to automatically connect to Wi-Fi networks that they’ve used before, says Ada Scott, marketing manager at EaseUS Software.
Improved App Store Search
In addition, Scott confirms that the App Store search has been improved with more accurate suggestions and faster performance.
iCloud Drive
“iCloud Drive now offers a new folder-sharing feature, allowing users to easily share files and folders with others,” Scott says.
While Lying Down, You Can Use Face ID
You might have noticed that unlocking your iPhone while lying on your side or in a vertical position does not work, says Aakash Shukla, head of marketing and sr. content producer on https://review.ibc24.in. “It is necessary to place your iPhone in portrait orientation, or upright, in order for Face ID to work,” Shukla says. “Now that iOS 16 is available, you can unlock your iPhone in landscape mode using Face ID. You must, however, have an iPhone 13 or 14 running iOS 16 in order for this to work.”
Remove More Preinstalled Apple Apps
“There is no way to uninstall all preinstalled iOS applications, such as Stocks, Maps and Calculator, since iOS 10,” Shukla says. “Three new apps have been added to the list of ones you can remove with iOS 16: Find My, Clock, and Health. It is important to note, however, that deleting these apps can negatively affect and break support for other apps and connected devices, such as your Apple Watch.”
