The other night I headed to my friend's apartment for a night out in the city. When I got to her place, Brittany (@brpearl) was still sitting at her vanity doing her hair. This wouldn't be a big deal expect she has the thickest, longest hair EVER. Seriously, this girl has a horse mane. I sighed, thinking it would take at least an hour for her to finish her hair. To my surprise, she styled her strands in only a few minutes. I was amazed at how quickly she tamed her long, thick hair.

Since Brittany has been dealing with thick her whole life, she's a pro at managing it. She shared some of her favorite styling tips and tricks for thick hair. She also sent me some amazing hair styles created by her friend Laura (@rockpapertweezers). These looks are especially great for girls with full hair. Click through the slideshow to check them out.

Try A Half Updo

Since thick hair can be hard to manage, split it up! Put your hair a half ponytail or a half braid. In this picture, Laura pulled the top layer of Brittany's hair back in a side braid. As a result, Brittany only had to curl the bottom half of her hair, which is a major time saver.

Or A Half Braid

Here, Laura did a half-French braid on Brittany's hair.

Braids Are Your Best Friend

One of best and easiest ways to get thick, long hair out of your face is to put it in a braid. It works for even the thickest hair.

Use The Right Product

Brittany swears by the Bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil ($40). She uses this on her hair while it is wet to control frizz. Then she uses it again when her hair is dry to tame flyaways and give her hair shine.

Put It In A Bun

Girls with thin hair usually can't create a bun without using a hair doughnut, so put your full hair to use! Laura suggests pulling your hair into a ponytail and keeping the two front sections of your hair out. Then wrap them around the bun and pin them in place.

Use The Right Brush

Remember that scene in The Princess Diaries where the paddle brush breaks in Mia's hair? It can be extremely difficult to brush thick hair. Avoid weak hair brushes and give the Tangle Teezer ($15) a try. It's unique design helps you get a good grip and the bristles won't break, no matter how thick your hair is.

Try A New Hair Tie

Sometimes a normal hair tie doesn't do the job when you have thick hair. The invisabobble hair ties are great because they work for all hair types and don't leave a crease. Plus, they won't snap like regular hair elastics.

Don't Be Afraid To Experiment

Take advantage of your thick hair! There are many hair styles you can't do with thin hair, so if you have thick hair, play with it! Brittany is always asked to be a hair model because her hair is great for unique looks. Check out some of the styles Laura created using Brittany's hair.
