1. Letting Your Phone Stay Plugged In At 100% For Hours

The way you go about charging your iPhone can make a big difference not just in its battery life, but in its entire function. For instance, one of the most classic charging mistakes, like leaving your phone plugged in overnight, can make a more significant, negative impact than you may think.

"One of the worst charging habits users still have in 2026 is treating lithium-ion batteries like old-school batteries, explains tech expert Michael Crapis. "Modern smartphone batteries degrade fastest when they sit at extreme charge levels for long periods. Keeping your phone at 100% overnight every night, especially in warm environments, accelerates chemical aging inside the battery."

2. Using Your Phone While It's Charging

For a lot of people, their phone usage doesn't stop when they need to plug it in and charge it. A lot of people will continue to use their phone while it's on the charger, sometimes doing things like streaming or playing games that require their device to work extra hard.

"Using your phone for high-performance tasks—like gaming or 4K streaming—while fast charging is one of the most damaging habits people overlook," adds Crapis. "This combination generates significant heat from both the processor and the charging circuitry at the same time."
