Two-factor authentication is a security solution that employs both a physical element and an electronic identification to validate your identity, according to Kerr — and it’s a necessity. “It is an important safeguard against cyberattacks since it makes it impossible for someone who knows your password and username to access your account without access to another form of identification, such as a key fob or security token,” Kerr said. “The time necessary for hackers to effectively access customer data has been reduced from minutes to seconds.”
