Polo premiered on December 10th, and includes five episodes in which elite polo players on their journey to the U.S. Open Polo Championship. The executive producer and showrunner, Miloš Balać, says that Meghan and Harry were very involved in the production of the film, noting that they had a true "vision" for the project.
"They were wonderful. They were extremely hands-on," he said. "They really had a vision for trying to get polo to be accessible to a wider audience." Prince Harry grew up playing polo, and even saddles up every year for the Sentebale Polo Cip, his charity's flagship fundraiser. Meghan has enjoyed supporting her husband over the years. "I think I spoke to them before I ever went to a polo match and it was [Meghan] who really prepped me for how wonderfully casual polo can be," Balać told People.
Harry & Meghan's Netflix Deal Is In 'Trouble'
However, despite the amount of time and effort that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex put into the series, it ultimately underperformed, and according to brand expert Nick Ede, it could mean trouble for the couple's Netflix deal.
"The new polo documentary hasn't received good reviews, and this is another foray into producing from Meghan and Harry," he explained. "This could potentially be a nail in the coffin for their deal with the streaming giant who now uses algorithms to make sure their programming is perfect for their subscribers."
