A few things come into play when you’re trying to keep your iPhone as efficient as possible so that you don’t have to replace it so often. Shielding your device from the trauma of dropping it from a very high shelf would be one, and there are plenty of quality screen covers that offer protection. Maintaining a healthy battery is right up there on the list of must-do things. The stronger and more efficient your iPhone battery, the better your overall iPhone experience will be. These are the three iPhone hacks Apple experts swear by for a longer-lasting battery. Try these today — you may be shocked at how much less you have to charge your device throughout the day.

Turn off Push Email

If you’re like a lot of people, you get a ton of emails that you can barely keep up with. Luckily, there’s an iPhone setting that limits the strain these constant emails can cause on your battery. “Every day we get several emails; some are important but others are merely promotional,” said Beth Rivera, founder and CEO of Best Financial Planners. “Having your phone on constant alert eats a lot of battery. Settings like Push mail constantly use the battery while checking for new messages and drain the battery quickly.”

To turn this setting off: Go to Settings > Passwords & Accounts and toggle off the “Push” option for any email accounts you have set up. Instead, you can set your phone to fetch new emails at set intervals, like every 15, 30, or 60 minutes.

Turn Off Background App Refresh

The Background App Refresh feature allows apps to update their content in the background while you’re not using them, which can obviously drain your battery, according to Tech Expert Alex Alexakis, the founder and CEO of PixelChefs. “This is something I think we all can agree on but you should always turn off the background app refresh,” Alexakis said. “To turn it off, go to Settings, then General, then Background App Refresh.”

Turn Down Screen Brightness

Is your iPhone screen so bright it could light up a football field? Many of us become accustomed to perusing sites on a super-bright screen, but all of that light takes a toll on your battery.

“I think this hack everyone already uses because it’s the most obvious one but it was worth mentioning it still because the brighter your screen, the more power your phone will be using,” Alexakis said. “Lowering the brightness can help save battery life, which you can easily arrange by going to Settings and then Display & Brightness.”

Give your phone a major boost by following these three simple battery-saving hacks. Chances are you won’t even miss that super bright screen, background app refresh, or all of those pesky email notifications. And you definitely won’t miss having to stop everything to search for a charger in the middle of the day.
