Most smartphone users are aware that when you get a new device like an Android, it comes with apps that are preinstalled. While those apps can be helpful, some of them can also take up unnecessary storage on our phones.

If you think about all of the apps that came with your phone, aside from ones you use daily, like your messages and phone itself, there are likely a large number you’re not using. This could be because you don’t have a need for them, or you’ve found a third-party alternative. We’ve compiled a list of four Android preinstalled apps that are likely wasting your storage and data, so you should consider deleting them. Read more about them below.

1. Google Play

Google Play is Google's official app marketplace, where Android users can download apps, games, movies, books, and other digital content. Although it's usually preinstalled on nearly every Android device, some people find it unnecessary if they don't rely on it for streaming or prefer to get apps from alternative stores. Because Google Play takes up storage and regularly updates in the background, it can feel like a wasteful app that's wasting storage in return. If you're not using it, feel free to take it off your phone.

2. Samsung Wallet

These days, there are many people who rely on their smartphone's digital wallet to pay for everyday goods and services. However, not everyone uses it, making any digital wallet or payment apps unnecessary. Samsung Wallet, which comes preinstalled on most Samsung devices, is designed to store credit cards and digital passes, but for owners who don't rely on it, the app can end up wasting storage space. Samsung Wallet still takes up internal memory, and updates over time can make the app even larger. For people who prefer PayPal or other payment methods, Samsung Wallet often becomes just another unused app taking up valuable space.

3. Google News

While it can be nice to have a news app on your phone, if you're not using Google News, then it might be time to get rid of it or disable it in order to free up some room. The app takes up space for both the app itself and the cached articles, images, and videos it automatically downloads. Even if you never open it, background updates can slowly increase its storage footprint over time. For users who get their news from other apps or websites, Google News becomes unnecessary, making it just another source of wasted storage.
