At the end of the day, whether you own an iPhone or Android, you’re going to benefit from a few good tips that keep them running for as long as possible without needing another phone charge (or a brand new battery). While some tips are specifically meant for one phone model or the other, they often meet in the middle when it comes to battery concerns. If you’re looking for ways to keep your iPhone or Android charged, start with these four tips, which work for both phones.

Turn Down Your Screen Brightness

There is hardly a device on Earth that doesn’t benefit from lowering its screen brightness. A too-bright screen is an indicator of a device that’s using up battery power to keep it going. It’s also a great idea to disable auto brightness on your phone so that your device doesn’t pick and choose its own brightness.

On Android, go to your Display settings and drag your brightness level down. On iPhone, head to Settings > Display & Brightness and drag the brightness slider down.

Turn On Low Power Mode

Both Android and iPhone feature low power mode settings that can save you battery power in a pinch, though at the expense of being able to use your phone the way you ordinarily would, as it limits some of the things you can do. On Android, go to Settings > Battery and Device Care > Battery > Power Saving Mode. Enable this feature. On iPhone, head to Settings > Battery > enable Low Power Mode.

Turn Off Location Services

On both iPhone and Android, Location Services takes up a lot of battery power. It can also interfere with your privacy. To limit the apps that can use location services and save battery power, go to Settings > Location on Android to keep Google from tracking you. On iPhone, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services.

Turn Off Assistants

Whether you’re using Google Assistant on your Android or Siri on your iPhone, an automated assistant can be a big convenience — and an even bigger battery hog. Turn off Google Assistant to save battery power by going to your profile image, opening Hey Google & Voice Match, and disabling Hey Google. On the iPhone, go to Settings > Siri & Search and turn off Siri.

These four tips work for both iPhone and Android and will help you gain a battery boost fast.
