McDonald’s menu offers an array of delectable dishes, but some of them can wreak havoc on someone’s diet progress.

Cookist has compiled a list of six high-calorie items, and we have conducted an in-depth analysis of their ingredients to emphasize the negative impact they can have on one’s heart health and overall well-being. Read on for six offerings at McDonald’s to avoid if a healthier diet is your goal this fall:

60+ Gift Ideas For Everyone On Your List

1. McCafé Frappes

Indulging in a morning coffee fix at McDonald's may seem like a quick and convenient option for most people on-the-go, but it is crucial to note that not all of their McCafé drinks are created equal, particularly in terms of nutrition and caloric content. Among their menu items, the McCafé frappes, in particular, have been known to contain a substantial amount of sugar and calories that can leave you feeling bloated and lethargic for the rest of the day. As Cookist points out, "one medium caramel McCafé frappe has 510 calories, 21 grams of fat, and 72 grams of carbs."

2. Milkshakes

McDonald's shakes vary in calories, ranging from 490 in the small vanilla shake to 530 in the small chocolate shake. Unfortunately, as the outlet notes, these shakes are all high in sugar, with even the "low sugar" option, Vanilla, containing 59 grams, which is twice the average daily limit. Given the nutritional content, it is best to avoid these shakes as much as possible!

3. Hotcakes And Sausages

It's no secret that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and this one option at McDonald's is one that can leave you feeling sluggish by the afternoon, rather than energized. As Cookist points out, there are a whopping "790 calories, 35 grams of fat, and 103 grams of carbs" within it! Instead, you can check out Mickey D's much healthier breakfast choices, like yogurt or oatmeal.

4. Soda

When you are trying to maintain a healthy diet, it's important to keep an eye on the drinks that you consume, especially at fast food restaurants like McDonald's. Many popular beverage options contain an alarming amount of calories and sugar, which can easily derail your efforts to eat well and maintain a healthy weight. Take soda, for example. While it may be a refreshing treat on a warm day, it's essentially a combination of empty calories and sugar. A small Coke from McDonald's contains 150 calories and 42 grams of carbohydrates!

5. Southwest Buttermilk Crispy Chicken Salad

When it comes to choosing a meal at McDonald's, some believe they are making a cautious decision by opting for a seemingly lighter salad over something like a Big Mac. However, according to Cookist, it may not be cautious enough. While the Southwest Buttermilk Crispy Chicken Salad may appear innocent, it contains a shocking 520 calories, 25 grams of fat, and 46 grams of carbs! But don't worry, there's a solution to reducing the fat intake. The publication suggests simply switching out the crispy chicken for grilled chicken, which is a much healthier option. The Southwest Grilled Chicken Salad, for example, contains only 350 calories, 11 grams of fat, and a mere 27 grams of carbs.

6. Shamrock Shakes

It's no secret that Shamrock Shakes, a beloved and indulgent seasonal delicacy offered by McDonald's each Saint Patrick's Day, can satisfy even the most discerning taste buds. However, one should exercise caution when it comes to the calorie and nutritional intake of this frothy beverage. Each 16-ounce shake is a hefty 550 calories, packing in 13 grams of fat and a staggering 82 grams of sugar. Such a calorie and sugar overload cannot be ignored, as consuming this dessert on a regular basis can lead to adverse health effects!
