It’s not surprise that dairy has a bad reputation. Whether it’s causing weight gain or breaking you out, there are plenty of reasons to avoid dairy (even if so many delicious things have milk in them). But if you can’t give it up entirely, there is one dairy item that you really should be avoiding at all costs.

According to Lisa Richards, nutritionist and author of The Candida Diet, “If I had to choose one dairy item to avoid completely, it would be ice cream. This is because not only does it contain dairy, which has its own negative health effects, but also added sugar, fat, and emulsifiers.” She went on to explain that, “Many individuals are beginning to turn to plant-based and non-dairy food and beverages.

The growing research on the damaging effects of dairy along with intolerances and allergies to dairy are the driving forces behind this new fascination with ditching dairy.”

If you do find that you have a bad reaction to dairy-containing foods, it is worth getting a food sensitivity test. But even for those who aren’t lactose intolerant or allergic to cow's milk protein, it may still be wise to remove dairy from your diet because dairy is an inflammatory substance for and causes the body to produce excess mucus. Richards explained, “Chronic, low-grade inflammation leads to poor immune function and cellular damage that ultimately leads to chronic diseases and replication of damaged cells.

This replication is the genesis of most cancers and diseases.” So while ice cream is a definite no-no, all dairy may be best left off the table, and your plate because of dairy's overall negative health consequences is it's inflammatory characteristic.”
