King Charles Thinks It's 'Now Or Never' To Reconcile With Prince Harry And Meghan Markle
It's no secret that King Charles is eager to spend more time with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, whom he has only seen a handful of times since Harry and Meghan moved to California. Prince Harry has long been reluctant to bring his family back to the U.K. because of his ongoing dispute over security, which was taken away when he and Meghan stepped down as senior royals in 2020. However, recent reports suggest that obstacle may have been resolved, with King Charles reportedly agreeing to cover the cost of the private security Prince Harry has requested.
The King's reported "sadness and regret" over his relationship with Archie and Lilibet may explain why he has been so determined to extend an olive branch to the Sussexes. With neither side willing to make the first move, he reportedly believes someone has to take the first step – particularly given his ongoing cancer battle.
"There was a period where he accepted that neither side was ready to move forward, but he's now become convinced that if this family is ever going to heal, somebody has to step in," an insider recently told Examiner. "Far too much time has already been lost."
"In Charles' mind, July presents the best opportunity they're likely to get and he doesn't want it wasted. He knows there's every chance the meeting could be uncomfortable, but he firmly believes it's now or never," the source went on.
Prince William Is 'Livid' With His Father
The Prince of Wales, however, does not feel the same way... and that's putting it politely!
Prince William is reportedly still at odds with his younger brother over what he said about the royal family, including him and Kate Middleton, and does not understand why his father is being so lenient.
The source said Prince William "is still livid and can't understand why his father keeps extending olive branches. As far as he's concerned, Harry is beyond hope." Royal sources previously hinted that there was "no chance" the brothers would meet next month, and we are inclined to believe them!
Queen Camilla Feels The Same Way As Prince William
And it's not just Prince William who feels this way about Prince Harry and Meghan. Queen Camilla is also said to be on the same page and "thinks the whole idea is complete lunacy."
The source added: "They've both warned Charles countless times that he's setting himself up for disaster, that Harry and Meghan can't be trusted." They concluded: "He's reached the point where he believes the feud is damaging the family far more than any awkward reunion ever could."
This echoes what another insider previously told CloserOnline, claiming Camilla believes it would be a "grave mistake" to let the Sussexes back into the royal fold.
