Actress and comedian Amy Schumer is the latest celebrity to be honest about their experience with type 2 diabetes medication Ozempic, which has been widely used for its weight loss affects. Like others critical of the drug, Amy originally tried it to lose weight, but had to stop because of the side effects: “I was one of those people that felt so sick,” the comedienne confessed to Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live.

New Drugs Promising Weight Loss Taking Hollywood By Storm

Ozempic isn't the only hot medication on the market being used for weight loss, joining other diabetes drugs Wegovy and Mounjaro. These drugs, brand names for semaglutide and tirzepatide, work in the brain to impact satiety, and are generally intended as Type 2 diabetes treatments. However, many in the celebrity world—openly and not—are obtaining prescriptions in hopes of take advantage of its reported weight loss side effects, despite not having diabetes themselves.

In fact, quite a few big names have been accused of taking the drug for weight loss, including Oscar winner Anne Hathaway, whose thin appearance recently on the red carpet prompted fans to comment about her speculated use of the med: "Oh, she's taking Ozempic," said one Instagram user.

Amy Schumer Shares Personal Ozempic Experience

Actress Amy Schumer, who has sometimes faced public comment about her weight, shared with What What Happens Live host Andy Cohen that she did try Ozempic to lose weight, but reacted quite badly to it. "Like a year ago, I tried it," said Amy. "I was one of those people that felt so sick and couldn’t play with my son. I was so skinny and he’s throwing a ball at me and [I couldn’t]."

Amy shared that this made her realize the medication simply wasn't working for her: "And you’re like, 'OK, this isn’t livable for me.' But I immediately invested [in it] because I knew everyone was going to try it." And try it they did, according to Amy, who said that she spotted fellow celebs "lying" about taking Ozempic for its weight loss properties. "Everyone has been lying saying, 'Oh smaller portions.' Like shut the f— up," she joked. "You are on Ozempic or one of those things or you got work done. Just stop. Be real with the people. When I got lipo, I said I got lipo."

The Trainwreck star indeed discussed her liposuction procedure on Chelsea Handler's podcast Dear Chelsea, telling the host "I got liposuction. I never thought that I was going to do anything like that. Like when I would hear liposuction I was just like, that's so crazy to me, and I would say that I'm not ever going to do anything...Cut to turning 40 after having a C-section!" That, paired with endometriosis and other surgeries, prompted Amy to pull the trigger on getting the procedure done. "I got lipo and I'm feeling really good...I just wanted to say that, because if anybody sees me in pictures or anything and they're like, she looks thinner, and whatever: it's because I had a surgery. It's too hard, and I just want to be real about it."

By sharing her experience with Ozempic, Amy is definitely being real about the pressures to both look and feel perfect when you're in the spotlight, and how widespread those pressures (and the attempts to alleviate them) really are.
