King Charles Is Reportedly Paying For Prince Harry And Meghan Markle's Security When They Visit The UK Next Month After Bitter Battle: 'A Safe Return'

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will be making their first joint return to the United Kingdom since 2022 next month, and all eyes are on them. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are even bringing their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, for events related to the Invictus Games, and hopefully a visit with their grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins.

In what is widely being looked at as an olive branch, King Charles has reportedly offered to pay for all the necessary security measures the Sussexes will require for their trip, a topic that’s been quite contentious over the past few years. Keep reading for more information.

King Charles To Fund Meghan Markle & Prince Harry's Security During UK Visit

While Prince Harry has made a few trips to the UK since he formally stepped away from his royal duties, this will be Meghan, Archie, and Lilibet's first time in the UK since June 2022, during Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Prince Harry has claimed that the lack of security provided to him is the main reason he hasn't taken his family back to where he grew up, and even went as far as a lawsuit to try and confirm he would receive taxpayer-funded security anytime he's in the UK. Unfortunately for him, he lost the suit, but he won't be without a security guard this time around.

King Charles has reportedly graciously agreed to fund security for the Sussexes. According to The Sun, while there's been no change in the court's decision to decline to cover Prince Harry's security, King Charles is willing to personally fund the necessary security measures to ensure a "safe return" for the family.

Prince Harry Loses Security Lawsuit

Security may be a bit of a touchy subject for Prince Harry, who in 2024 challenged the High Court's ruling that he wouldn't automatically receive taxpayer-funded police protection anytime he visited the UK. Rather, the court decided his security would be assessed on a case by case basis. Though he lost in 2024, he appealed in 2025, but unfortunately lost again, with the Court of Appeal maintaining their position that with Harry's decision to step away from his royal duties, he is no longer owed constant security from UK taxpayers.

When he lost the appeal in 2025, Harry lashed out at reporters, saying to BBC that he was "devastated" and that the ruling made it near impossible for him to visit his family back in the UK.

"I can't see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point," he said. How the tides have turned!
