Angelina Jolie has joined a growing list of celebrities – including Rosie O’Donnell, Robin Wright, and Ellen DeGeneres – who have openly criticized the current state of the U.S. And she seems keen to follow in their footsteps and leave Hollywood behind for a new life abroad – potentially Europe!

While promoting her new film Couture at the San Sebastián Film Festival in Spain on Sunday, September 21st, the Oscar-winner revealed she no longer recognizes the U.S., and once again hinted at her long-standing plans to move overseas.

Could she be the next A-lister to pack her bags for Europe or beyond? Considering she’s already said she doesn’t intend to stay in Los Angeles once her and ex-husband Brad Pitt‘s youngest children – 17-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne – turn 18, it sure is looking that way!

Angelina Jolie Says She Doesn't Recognize The US

The Maria actress, 50, looked sensational at the film festival in a plunging black velvet gown; but her remarks about the state of the country quickly overshadowed the sizzling red carpet look. While addressing America's political turmoil – especially since Donald Trump's return to the White House – the Oscar-winner said: "Anything, anywhere that divides or limits personal expressions and freedoms, I think, is very dangerous."

The mom-of-six went on: "I don't, at this time, recognize my country. I've always lived internationally. My family is international. My life, my worldview, is equal [and] united."

"I think these are such serious times that we have to be careful not to say things casually. So I'll be careful in a press conference," she continued, before concluding: "But these are very, very heavy times."

Could Angelina Jolie Have A Future Career In Politics?

This isn't the first time Jolie has addressed politics, and has hinted at turning her attention from Hollywood to politics on several occasions over the years. The Atelier Jolie founder has spent decades speaking out on humanitarian issues, and was a special envoy for the United Nations' refugee agency from 2012 to 2022, following years of work with the organization since 2001.

Back in 2018, the Maleficent star teased that she could very well step into the political sphere, saying she would "always go where I am needed." At the time, she admitted: "I don't know if I'm fit for politics… but then I've also joked that I don't know if I have a skeleton left in my closet."

She also referenced her previous diplomatic work with the U.N., noting: "I'm also able to work with governments. So I sit in a very interesting place of being able to get a lot done, without a title and without it being about myself or my policies."

Angelina Jolie Plans To Leave Hollywood For Good And Possibly Head To Europe

The Eternals actress has made no secret of her desire to leave Hollywood – and possibly even the U.S. – once her youngest children turn 18, as she no longer sees Los Angeles as her home.

Last month, People reported that Jolie is preparing to put her Los Feliz house up for sale, with a source noting she "never wanted to live in L.A. full time" but had little choice because of custody arrangements with the Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood actor. The insider added that she has been "eyeing several locations abroad."

Jolie has already spent significant time in Europe, including living in London while filming and working on humanitarian projects, so it makes perfect sense for her to move there. And she has also repeatedly praised Cambodia – where she adopted her eldest son Maddox – saying it is "the one place in my heart" that she considers home.
