On Jan. 23rd, Anne Hathaway was sitting in hair and makeup about to begin a photoshoot for Vanity Fair when she got up and walked out in solidarity with the 400 striking SAG-AFTRA union members. Condé Nast employees, which include workers at Vanity Fair, Vogue, GQ, Allure, Architectural Digest, and other publications staged a 24-hour work stoppage to protest negotiation practices they claim are unlawful, and Anne Hathaway has just joined their cause. Condé Nast Workers Strike

Condé Nast is a mass media company that owns various publications like the ones mentioned above. Union members committed to a work stoppage in protest of the mass amounts of lay offs that have happened recently or are happening soon. In fact, Condé Nast CEO Roger Lynch announced in November 2023 that 300 lay offs were coming, and just last week the company merged GQ and Pitchfork, resulting in a number of layoffs from Pitchfork.

The Condé Nast Union shared its plans last Thursday on X, writing, "Nearly 400 of us have pledged to STOP WORK when our bargaining committee calls for a 24 hour walk out. RT to tell @CondeNast you stand with workers: stop breaking the law, stop union busting, and stop the layoffs."

Anne Hathaway Walks Out Of Vanity Fair Photoshoot

Anne Hathaway, though not part of the Condé Nast union, joined the union's strike in solidarity, and walked out of a Vanity Fair photoshoot after her team was notified by a SAG-AFTRA staffer to advise Hathaway to support the work stoppage.

According to a source, the 41-year-old was very respectful: "They hadn't even started taking photos yet," the source said. "Once Anne was made aware of what was going on, she just got up from hair and makeup and left."

The union recognized Anne Hathaway's decision on X, writing, "Thank you Anne Hathaway for not crossing our picket line."
