Several apps are doing you dirty when it comes to tracking you and sharing your data. Reading the permissions for all apps can keep you better aware of which are the “absolute worst offenders,” but if you don’t have all the time in the world to do your detective work, good news: Reddit has done it for you.
Tech enthusiasts at Reddit aren’t shy when it comes to sharing which apps they find to be the most notorious data collectors. These apps are right up there as the “worst,” according to Reddit users.
Social media apps
Social media apps like Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook require a lot of data from users so that they can operate well and do what you expect of them. They collect your personal information, details about what you like and follow, IP address and phone model info (in some cases), locations, and even data about the websites you visit when you aren’t on the app.
These apps use this information in a few different ways. They may use it to help improve the app and make it more in line with what its users need and want. But it can also sell your data to third-party advertisers not make a profit.

The one true way to keep these apps from obtaining your data is by not using them at all. If that isn’t plausible, limit the amount of data you provide apps and don’t give them every permission they ask to have.
