You’re one of the lucky ones if you’ve made it this far in life without overplucking your brows. However, if you too know the struggle of the pencil thin lines that refuse to grow back, just know that not all hope is lost, even if you did go a little too hard with the tweezers.

Now more than ever, big bushy brows are back in style, but even if you did away with yours, you can still grow them back with a little TLC and the right routine. Below are the best expert approved tips for getting the brows of your dreams without relying on the eyebrow pencil. Cara Delevingne, who?

Toss The Tweezers

First thing’s first: if you want fluffy, voluminous brows, it’s time to toss the tweezers. It can be tempting to clean up the edges and do away with rogue hairs, but this can compromise the shape you’re ultimately trying to achieve. Nicole Lovelace, owner of PRMP Brow and Beauty Studio, explains, “Tweezers in the wrong hands (yours) can lead to brows that are misshapen and too thin. Hold off on the grooming to allow your brows to do what they do naturally. Brow hair grows in cycles (30-45 for the active growth cycle) and disrupting the natural growth cycle can cause damage to your hair follicles and minimize your chances of seeing fuller brows again.” The process of shaping the hairs is best left to the professionals, so set aside the tweezers until you’ve solidified a shape you can work off of.

Start With A Serum

If you’re working with a thin framework for your brows, a serum is a great option to fill in the gaps and encourage hair growth. “Finding a nutrient-rich brow serum like Brow Zhuzh Eyebrow Conditioning Treatment to help nourish the skin and follicles while stimulating growth can give you a boost and help you reach your brow goals a little faster. Remember to apply it consistently and according to manufacturer's guidelines for maximum results,” says Lovelace.

Maintenance Work

Once your brows have begun to grow, it can be good to keep the length in check by giving them a trim every once in a while to maintain the shape that’s been created. Beauty expert Molly Thompson-Tubridy notes, “I give my brows a trim about once a week, this helps prevent any future breakage! I also like to keep up my conditioning routine so I have healthy soft brow hair, it is so much easier to maintain and work with when it’s healthy! For my daily brow routine I apply soap with a mascara spoolie and a touch of brow pomade to fill them in depending on the look I’m going for!” Once you have the shape, it’s equally as important to maintain it!

Treat The Skin

Cleansing your face and brows daily is one of the best ways to ensure healthy growth. Lovelace explains, “Having a regular skin care routine and GENTLY cleansing your brows is key to clearing away dirt, oil, dandruff and product buildup while also allowing for maximum penetration of your brow serum. If your serum has moisturizing agents, all the better to help keep your skin and follicles healthy, seal in moisture and promote growth.” Just as you have to care for your complexion to achieve the best results, the same thing applies to your brows.
